Does ElevenLabs train its models on your data?
It depends — ElevenLabs trains on consumer/free-tier data by default but excludes business, enterprise and API tiers.
By default ElevenLabs may process your Personal Data and Voice Data to research, develop, train and improve its AI models; any account can self-serve opt out via the 'Data use' menu, and Enterprise customers can use Zero Retention Mode where request/response data is deleted immediately.
Can you opt out?
Any user can opt out of ElevenLabs using their Personal Data/Content for training at any time via the 'Data use' menu in the 'Terms and Privacy' section of their account. The opt-out only applies to data provided after the opt-out is submitted. Third-party LLM providers are contractually barred from training on customer content regardless of plan.
Zero retention / DPA
Zero Retention Mode (ZRM) is an Enterprise feature: for API products send enable_logging=false (Text to Speech, TTS websocket, Voice Changer, Speech to Text), or enable per-agent in ElevenAgents Privacy settings; most request/response data is deleted immediately on completion. Access may be restricted for high-risk use cases. A DPA is available for business customers. DPA ↗
What the listicles get wrong
Verified verbatim from the live Privacy Policy (effective 2026-05-20): default training of Personal/Voice Data with a self-serve 'Data use' opt-out. ZRM is gated to higher API tiers/Enterprise and may be denied for high-risk use; verify it covers your exact product path.
